Mathematics

Students in Year 7 and 8 are grouped into an Academic Extension course or a General course. The placement in the Academic Extension class is determined by Year 7 results, NAPLAN data and teacher recommendation.

All Year 7 and 8 students will cover the Australian Curriculum for Mathematics covering the following content areas:

  • Number and Algebra
  • Probability and Statistics
  • Measurement and Space

Students will also develop their proficiency in Mathematics with:

  • Understanding
  • Fluency
  • Problem Solving
  • Reasoning

Students in Year 9 are grouped into an Academic Extension course or a General course. The placement in the Academic Extension class is determined by their Year 8 results and teacher recommendation.

Maths 3

All Year 9 students will be covering the following content areas:

  • Number and Algebra
  • Probability and Statistics
  • Measurement and Space

Students in Year 10 are grouped according to the grades they have achieved in Year 9 and their future career pathways. There will be three distinct courses:

  • Course 1 (Academic Extension) – for students aiming for Mathematical Methods or Specialist Maths in Yr 11 and 12. This is a rigorous course that will cover the Year 10 core curriculum for Maths as well as the Year 10 Advanced Maths curriculum. This course includes semester examinations.
  • Course 2 – for students aiming for Mathematical Applications in Yr 11 and 12. This course covers the Year 10 core Maths curriculum with an emphasis on Statistics. This course includes semester examinations.
  • Course 3 – for students aiming for Essential and Foundation Maths in Yr 11 and 12. This course is for students who have limited success with Maths. It is designed to develop more life skills and to prepare students for OLNA. It also focuses on application and project work.

Students in Year 11 and 12 make selections according to their preferred pathway – ATAR or General, from the following subjects:

Mathematical Methods (ATAR)
Specialist Mathematics (ATAR)
